  How You Can Help

Can you help to bring the Bristol Dinosaur back to life?
The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol is developing a venture that will combine its world-renowned palaeontological expertise with an initiative in community education. Our vision is to produce an exhibit for the City of Bristol, displaying the Bristol dinosaur, the environment in which it lived and the exciting history of its discovery.

This dinosaur is unique to Bristol and of great significance to the scientific community. The Bristol Dinosaur Project Exhibit will also be of great interest to Natural History and Science Museums around the world and will play an important role in putting the science and the city of Bristol on the map.

In order to develop the Bristol Dinosaur Project we are seeking financial support from individuals, corporate sponsors and charitable trusts. Our aim is to raise sufficient funds to get the Bristol Dinosaur Project Exhibit up and running.

In summary, this will involve the following steps:
1. Removing all the bones of the Bristol dinosaur from over five tonnes of rock to allow the reconstruction of a full skeleton of Thecodontosaurus for display
2. Appointment of an educational officer and the provision of educational materials for distribution to school children
3. Appointment of a research student to study the biomechanics of Theco, specificlaly how it moved and ate.

Who Will Benefit
We envisage that the Bristol Dinosaur Project Exhibit will bring science to the public in an entertaining and educational way. At the same time the project will highlight the important role Bristol is playing in understanding the 'Dinosaur Age'. It is anticipated that alongside the city's interest in promoting the exhibit, natural history and science museums both nationally and internationally will be interested in how the project promotes the popular and academic understanding of science and the dinosaurs.

With your help we can achieve these goals!

Why not sponsor an individual bone, a limb or even a whole dinosaur and contribute to the development of the scientific research and the exhibit? It costs £50 to prepare and cast each bone of Thecodontosaurus in order that we can accurately display the dinosaur for exhibition.

Alternatively, you may wish to contribute to our innovative plans for an interactive educational programme and help Bristol school children learn more about the science that is taking place in their local community.

If you can help in raising awareness or identifying opportunities for support, we would also like to hear from you.

If you'd like to donate to the Bristol Dinosaur Project, please contact us. Donations will be acknowledged on this website and updates of how the project fundraising is progressing will also be provided here.

Opportunities for Corporate Sponsorship
Sponsor the Bristol Dinosaur Project, enhance your relationship with the community and endorse education. Contributing to this project would promote your company as a leader in community education initiatives and as having an interest in local heritage and culture. Dinosaur research at Bristol University attracts extensive press and media coverage, and Corporate Sponsors will benefit from this interest as well as benefitting the entire City of Bristol.
