  Our Past Community Involvement

Below is a list of some of our past community involvement events. If you would like a visit by the Bristol Dinosaur, contact us.

At-Bristol
2001-Present
At-Bristol is a fun place to be, you can explore science and natural history subjects very well. In the past we have held mini exhibits there as well a ‘live’ events where people could ‘meet an expert’ and see Bristol Dinosaur bones be prepared out of rock before their eyes. The Bristol Dinosaur team visits At-Bristol regularly and always has creative activities, displays, narratives and games.

Bristol City Museum & Art Gallery
2004-Present
The Museum is next to the Department of Earth Sciences at University. We share events and have also created a permanent Bristol Dinosaur display. You can view these at the museum, play interactive games, and see some amazing fossils including all the material that survived bombing in World War II.

Bristol Festival of Nature
2004-2005
You can find our mobile display at the festival along with our experts.

Dorchester Dinosaur Day
2000

The Dorchester Council Museum is a great place to visit, especially because the fossil display has recently been updated! The museum features geology, archaeology, history and other related topics. In 2000 we held a Dinosaur Learning Day for 40 local school children.

Public Programmes Talks
2005
These talks are given to audiences in a variety of public venues including churches and community halls. Talks are organised through the Centre for Public Engagement.

Rocky Road Show
2006-2007
The Rocky Road Show is a new geology event organised by the Bristol City Museum. Many different experts, associations, and clubs gather together to talk to the public directly. Of course the Bristol Dinosaur is also represented with leaflets, display and researchers to talk to!

Science Alive!
Bianually 2000-2006
This biannual event is organised by the University and held in the Galleries, Broadmead. Many different departments present their research letting the public have an opportunity to learn, have fun and for the public to see what is being done at the University. The Bristol Dinosaur is always there to entertain and explain.

Summer School at @Bristol
2001
The Summer School is organised by At-Bristol during school holidays. They teache science and natural history subjects in an engaging and hands-on manner. The Bristol Dinosaur was part of this summer school in the year 2001. (Note: Summer Schools are at a fee)

Widening Participation
2002-2006
Widening Participation brings the University and the world of research to children of all ages in a practical way. Not everyone has the chance to learn more about a University before they are old enough to study there so Widening Participation aims to bridge that gap.

School Visits
2001-Present

The Bristol Dinosaur Educational Officer has visited over 100 schools and engaged 20,000 children. Below is a list of schools that have taken part in Bristol dinosaur activities. Has your school been involved? If not and you would like the Bristol Dinosaur Project's Education Officer to visit your school, get your teachers to contact us.
